This is a representation of Gia
the bead mother at Mother Earth Beads and Lampworks. Although this is
a single image it begins to convey the energy behind the creation of a
glass bead. Gia orchestrates a complex harmony with physics and asthetics.
The glass is brought to a molten state, twirled onto a steel rod, blanched
with a hot blue flame and carefully cooled. Any mistake and the bead will
shatter, forever lost like a lonely idea. The sequence is part of a Quicktime
movie I am stringing together to promote Gia's art. The background is
animated and was composited in Adobe After Effects and then inserted as
a backround in Poser 4. The Dancer spins and twirls in the foreground
like a bead spun in a fire.
