Barbecue Tofu

Barbecuing Tofu works best when you use a very firm variety of Tofu. Wildwood brand's "Extra Protein Tofu" is a good example of a Tofu that is ideal for barbecue. To achieve a classic crust of glazed and candied barbecue you should use a sauce that is thick and gooey. For example; Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauces will produce an impressively thick coating.

Ingredients:

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Spread Peanut Oil over the surface of a 11" x 17" baking pan.

Rinse the Tofu and slice it into 3/8" thick slabs.

Place the Tofu on the baking pan. Gather the pieces together so the edges are touching.

Coat the top of the Tofu with a layer of Barbecue Sauce. A nice thick layer works well.

Place the pan in the oven and bake the Tofu for 40 minutes.

Remove the pan and flip each piece of Tofu. Gather the pieces back together so the sides are touching.

Coat the unglazed surface of the Tofu with a layer of Barbecue Sauce.

Place the pan back in the oven and bake the Tofu for another 20 minutes. Check the Tofu to ensure that it has not begun to burn.

Continue baking while checking the Tofu every 5 minutes. Continue until the Barbecue Sauce firms into a candied glaze.

Remove the Tofu when the glaze has begun to set, and let it cool. Make sure to loosen the Tofu from the pan so that it does not stick as the sauce cools, thickens, and encrusts the Tofu.

Serve the Tofu when it is cool enough to eat, or store it in a refrigerator and serve the Tofu at your convenience.
