Visual Arts
Introduction
Thank you for visiting this website. I hope you enjoy viewing the visual art that I create. |
Our photograph website MeditationsOfLight.com features a collection of pictures that are available as finely detailed large format prints.

Floral Pattern Designs
Here is a collection of floral patterns inspired by the springtime flower bloom which occurs in the southwestern desert if the previous winter has been wet with snow and rain. The densely packed fields of vibrant color are a sight to see. I enjoy creating color palettes and designing patterns with the hope that the imagery will illicit delightful recollections of a memorable spring bloom. This link will take you to a page where you may shuffle through a collection of seamless tiles.

Moab Man Coffee Cups
I have been illustrating a series of "Moab Mentality" portraits to celebrate the joy of outdoor recreation. I had these colorful images printed on coffee cups, but these pictures were drawn with a hope of one day displaying them as large scale wall hangings. They have been prepared with lots of fine details and feature clean line work, which I think will look great in an oversize format.

Canyonlands Menagerie
I painted this picture to express my impression of the varied activities that occur in the canyonlands region of the southwestern United States. The image was made with vectorized digital brushes, which means that it may be enlarged by a gigantic factor and appear crystal clear and razor sharp. I think it would be fun to see it printed on a billboard.

Tile Pattern Designs
I enjoy making repeating patterns. Each design documents a process of solving geometric riddles. The challenge is to mate the elements at the edges of the tiles, and repeat the pattern across the display to present a balanced composition. I find it interesting to work with the geometric principals while making aesthetic choices. This link will take you to a page where you may shuffle through a collection of seamless tiles.

Harmonograph with Spirograph
Historically, Harmonographs and Spirographs are illustrations that have been made with the use of mechanical devices. Practitioners explore relationships between various geometric factors. The results can seem rigidly symmetrical, dramatically asymmetrical, or incomprehensibly chaotic. The possible outcomes seem endless, but sometimes patterns can be recognized and appreciated. The devices draw lines in sequences that can be described by mathematical algorithms. I have been using mathematical modeling software that is designed to emulate the mechanical devices. I work with the software by trying different combinations of factors until I discover a line with an interesting appearance.

Tallahassee Skate Park pixel art
This is a pixel art illustration that I designed for a web site about the City of Tallahassee's Mike Blankenship Skate Park.

Branches from a Southern Magnolia tree
I fabricated these branches of Southern Magnolia as 3d models and rendered the illustrations. The white background was inspired by a nostalgia for the wonderful paintings and prints made by naturalists such as James Audubon. I enjoy working with hi tech tools while trying to depict natural subjects.

Capelli D'angelo Chroma
Abstract expressionistic painting indulges spontaneity and rewards restraint. I enjoy the feeling I experience when I practice the process.

The Sun King surfs a longboard
I grew up surfing waves along the east coast of Florida. This is a painting I made because I love the bright light and tropical colors.

A Do It Yourself Tube Microphone Power Supply
Here are two photos of a linear power supply which I designed and constructed for use with the antique styled microphones that I custom build. Photographs of a piece of electronic equipment may seem misplaced in a gallery of visual art, but I present this item as an example of "industrial" design. I take a lot of care when I lay out and position all of the components so that the device not only works well but also appears as a piece of thoughtfully designed sculpture.

The Munson Hills Trail
This is an map graphic that I created for a website about the Munson Hills Mountain Bike Trail near Tallahassee Florida.

Magic Numbers
This is an example of an exercise in composition and geometric design.

Flowing in the Wind
Here is a collage that I painted for a music CD cover. I had a lot of fun building up the layers and textures.
